Directions

The route begins and ends at the Saxon-Bohemian Farmers’ Market. It then winds through the castle park, the Röhrsdorfer Grund, and back through the apple orchard. The tour is signposted as the “Röhrsdorfer Grund and Apple Loop.” The newly redesigned Röhrsdorf Castle Park and the revitalized landscape garden in the Röhrsdorfer Grund are the highlights of this six-kilometer circular hike.

In the 18th century, the von Carlowitz family had a landscape garden laid out in the idyllic Grund, complete with paths, grottoes, bridges, and resting areas. Friends erected statues and commemorative plaques. But it soon fell into oblivion. Since 2007, the Röhrsdorf Local History Association has been restoring it. And the castle park, too, is once again shining with nearly all its former beauty. Long information panels, located where the former orangery once stood, provide details about the area, the tradition of fruit growing, and the castle’s history. The route begins and ends at the Saxon-Bohemian Farmers’ Market.
