**Good to know….**
------------------

- Can you rent equipment? For every activity in Saxon Switzerland, the right equipment is available. Complete climbing sets with helmets are available for climbing tours, and for hikes, there are backpacks, hiking poles, and child carriers—perfect for families. If you don't have your own hiking boots, you can equip yourself at the Tourist Service Bad Schandau. And if you want to capture special moments, you can also rent high-quality SIGMA lenses.
- What is the weather like in the Saxon Switzerland in spring? In spring, Saxon Switzerland reveals its diverse side: Temperatures rise from a fresh 8°C in March to a pleasant 18°C in May, while cool nights and morning fog cast a mysterious light over the landscape. With approximately 7 to 10 rainy days per month and increasing sunshine duration from twelve to fifteen hours, both a raincoat and sunscreen should be in your luggage. The weather can change quickly, but this is exactly what makes spring so special here—a perfect blend of fresh mountain air, warming sun, and awakening nature.
- Can you already climb, paddle, or cycle in spring?**Can you go climbing, paddling, or cycling in the spring?**

**Climbing:** Once the rocks are dry, the climbing season begins, particularly on many sun-exposed rocks. Some rocks are temporarily closed until June due to the breeding season of protected birds. For current information on closures, check with the Saxon Mountaineering Association or the Saxon Switzerland National Park.

**Paddling:** The Elbe is perfect for paddling tours in spring. The water level is often ideal, and the landscape appears fresh and colorful. Due to the water temperatures, appropriate clothing and basic knowledge of dealing with currents and wind are recommended. A particularly exciting option is the combination of hiking and paddling. This offer can be booked every Saturday starting in May.

**Cycling:** The bike paths in the region, especially the Elbe Cycle Route, are easily rideable in spring. The gravel bike route "RockHead," opened in 2024 from the Upper Lusatia to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, is surely one of the best recommendations to bring the bicycle out of winter dormancy.
- Are there Easter customs in Saxon Switzerland?Yes, various customs are maintained around Easter in Saxon Switzerland. In many places, traditional Easter bonfires are held, often with music and regional catering. The beautifully decorated shrubs and fountains, lovingly adorned with eggs, are especially lovely. Have you ever heard of Easter water and its healing powers? Read more about it here.
- Ticks, mosquitoes, snakes - what should you watch out for?In the Saxon Switzerland region, there are no animals that pose any serious threat. Ticks are active in Saxon Switzerland—as in many other low mountain range regions—from spring onwards. One should be cautious especially in ferns, at forest edges, and in meadows. Wearing long pants, tucking socks over pant legs, and checking for ticks after a hike can help avoid bites. Mosquitoes generally become more prevalent later in the year, but can also appear in the spring near standing water. There are hardly any venomous animals—occasionally adders, but encounters are very rare and usually harmless if left undisturbed.

**Tours full of spring magic**

In spring, hiking tours with plenty of sunshine are ideal. The paths dry faster and are pleasantly warmed. It is especially beautiful along streams and forest edges, where many flowers are now blooming. For example, choose panoramic tours with a wide view of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. With a rain jacket and hiking boots, you are well equipped to capture the spring.
