The municipality of Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach enjoys an especially advantageous location owing to its proximity to the state capital, Dresden, and Saxon Switzerland National Park. The municipality benefits from excellent public transport links. A long-distance cycle route connects the village with Dresden. A network of well-maintained hiking trails along the Wesenitz and around the Breiter Stein and Schöne Höhe, as well as the route through the romantic Lieblingstal valley to the Belvedere, attracts hiking enthusiasts and art lovers alike. There is plenty to discover. Dittersbach Castle, built in the 16th century, was once a meeting place for the German Romantics of the early 19th century. Its owner at the time, the art historian and patron Johann Gottlob von Quandt, had a lasting influence on the surroundings of Dittersbach by commissioning Germany’s first Goethe memorial—the Belvedere—on the Schöne Höhe and having the castle park landscaped in the Romantic style. Quandt, Goethe, Silbermann, Rietschel, Richter and Semper all left their mark on Dittersbach and the surrounding area. The village also offers no shortage of events. The renowned Dittersbach annual fair has been held every year during the final week of August since 1668. The annual open-air singing event in the park, along with concerts by the choral society, church choir and trombone choir, attracts numerous visitors each year. The Hofmannsche Gut artists’ centre in Dittersbach hosts exhibitions and concerts, as does the Belvedere Schöne Höhe.
