Bad Schandau - The oldest health resort in an idyllic location
The centrally situated health and Kneipp resort in the national park is one of the oldest holiday resorts in Saxon Switzerland.
Bad Schandau and its districts of Krippen, Ostrau, Postelwitz, Prossen, Schmilka and Porschdorf
Enjoying a wonderful location on the River Elbe, Bad Schandau is the most central holiday resort in Saxon Switzerland. The small town with its Medieval centre and cafés, restaurants and shops invites visitors to enjoy a relaxed stroll. As the oldest health resort in Saxon Switzerland, it also boasts a great tradition. With classic spa facilities complemented by modern beauty and wellness, as well as numerous sports facilities, visitors to Bad Schandau can find the best Kneipp-style recuperation for body, mind and soul.
For example, the Toskana Therme, which is situated directly by the River Elbe, invites guests to take a proper break from the everyday. In the Botanical Gardens, guests can admire characteristic plants from all corners of the globe, or can take a trip on the historic passenger elevator – a 50-metre-high steel framework – dating back to 1905 to scale the Ostrau plateau and enjoy the breathtaking views over the town.
In addition to this, the seven Brüderhäuser in Postelwitz are also some of the best-photographed sights in the spa town. The striking houses, some of which feature the "Umgebinde" style, line up next to each other like small pearls. And then there is Schmilka, an idyllic small mountain and mariner town with its two original Brückenhaus. It is situated right by the sunny River Elbe and the routes to the Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland national parks.
