Idyllically situated drinking water reservoir in Gottleuba
The Gottleuba Dam provides drinking water for about 150,000 people in the district of Saxon Switzerland - Osterzgebirge and in Dresden as well as flood protection in the Gottleuba Valley and in Pirna. As a drinking water dam, it cannot be used for tourism; the dam wall is only accessible on guided hikes. Access to the two public lookout points is in the village of Hartmannsbach, directly next to the car park, about 700 metres away. (Direct access by car is prohibited due to the drinking water protection area) On the western valley slope above the dam wall, there is a refuge and information board directly on the Gottleuba circular trails G 4 and G 9.
Guided group hikes over the dam wall usually take place every first and third Sunday of the month (see calendar of events) or are available for individual groups (10 - 30). can be ordered for individual groups (10 - 30 people) via the tourist information offices in Bad Gottleuba and Berggießhübel.
