Neustadt in Saxony City Museum

Short facts

Museum on the history of the city and the development of artificial flowers

The permanent exhibition covers an area of 360 m² over two floors. The history of the four manors and their villages that belonged to the Neustadt parish is presented in the basement.
A wooden gilded epitaph, dedicated to a knight's estate owner of Burkersdorf who died in 1688, is a remarkable exhibit.

Furthermore, the beginnings of artificial flower production since 1834 and the resulting artificial flower industry in Neustadt and the surrounding area up to its decline in the period around 1989/90 are presented.

In addition to recruits' bouquets and funeral crowns from the period around 1800, handicraft tools, colour, fabric and pattern books and flower irons illustrate the production of fashion and decorative flowers.
In the Neustadt/Sebnitz region, 75 percent of the total German production of artificial flower products was made during its heyday, which was between 1875 and 1914.

The museum constantly hosts special exhibitions.
