Operational spectrum of the mountain rescue

The mountain rescue service is the rescue service in the mountains. The first task is, of course, to help injured mountaineers, hikers, skiers and tourists by providing medical care and transporting them to a clinic as quickly and gently as possible. Of course, an optimal accomplishment of these tasks requires a very good training of the comrades. They attend training courses several times a year to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. Constant training in the rescue methods learned and the use of technical aids are a matter of course.
Of course, the mountain rescue team is also involved in preventive measures. For example, it protects sporting events such as the Sebnitzer Bergpreis, Crosslauf, the Zuckerkuchentour, the Volkssport-Triathlon or the international cycling race Rund um Sebnitz. The mountain rescuers are also responsible for climbing walls and raising awareness at festivals and events. Environmental protection and disaster control, as well as support for other organisations such as the Federal Police, the Police or the Red Cross, require round-the-clock readiness, in all weathers and at all times of the year.

Any commitment of the volunteer members is voluntary, but for the comrades it is a matter of course. All the more does verbal, written or financial recognition confirm the comrades in their striving to help people in need.

The climbing skills of the mountain rescue team are also used in rescuing paraglider pilots from trees and in high-altitude rescues from buildings and cable cars.

Most of the mountain rescue missions take place due to recreational accidents in the mountains. In order to preserve the sensitive flora and fauna in the mountain regions, the mountain rescue service is actively involved in nature conservation. It carries out valuable educational work among tourists and recreational athletes and sets up its own shelters in particularly endangered regions.
