Historical lime kiln in Borna

Short facts

Lime kiln area with museums on the lime kiln and the local fire brigade

Since 2007, the "Lime Kiln Working Group" has been working on the restoration of the 200-year-old lime kiln at the former lime works in Borna. Thanks to many helpers and sponsors, the museum "Historical Lime Kiln Borna" was opened in December 2011. In May 2017, it was expanded with a separate exhibition on the lime works from 194 to 2000. An industrial memorial was created that recalls the more than 600-year history of lime mining in Pirna and the surrounding area. In the integrated exhibition, many interesting details about the history of lime production are vividly presented.
Since 2020, the museum of the local fire brigade has been added to the museum area. Here, the history of the fire brigade since its foundation in 1878 is presented in an exhibition.
