The current building was constructed from Postelwitz sandstone at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The 56-metre-high tower with its baroque dome is visible from afar. The baroque pulpit, which was made from a single block of sandstone, is particularly impressive. Another highlight of the interior is the richly decorated Renaissance altar. It was created around 1575 for Dresden's Kreuzkirche, reached St. John's Church via winding paths and was installed there in 1927.In the nave, embedded flood marks mark past Elbe floods.
