Getting there
Saxon Switzerland is located 30 kilometres southeast of Dresden, the capital of Saxony. The region starts at the point where the river Elbe enters Germany on its journey to the North Sea from its source, the Sudeten Mountain (Riesengebirge).
The closest airport is Dresden-Klotzsche. Saxon Switzerland, via Dresden, is linked to a vast European rail network; "Deutsche Bahn" (German rail) offers a high speed, punctual service and convenient links between local towns.
If you are travelling by car, take A4 motorway to Dresden, leave the motorway at junction "Kreuz Dresden-West" following the A17 to Prague. Continue down the A17 until the exit marked Pirna. Follow the B172 torwards Pirna which later on splits into the directions for Stolpen, Hohnstein, Neustadt, Stadt Wehlen, Kurort Rathen (B172 A) or Bad Schandau, Koenigstein, Pirna, Bad Gottleuba (B172).
